Why I will never use network-manager

by Julien on February 18th, 2006

I’ve finally managed to run network-manager thanks to the work of the Debian Utopia team.

I won’t use NM for the following reasons:

  • network is only up after login (what if I want to open a session in a terminal?)
  • WEP keys are stored throug gnome-keyring, which asks the keyring password just after the login (ok, this is security, but it’s a bit too much imo) – or should I disable WEP on my AP?!
  • I do not need it! (this is probably the main reason)

Anyway, as I built the Debian packages, I will upload them into my repository until the official packages reach unstable (nm is currently in the NEW queue, but some issues have been fixed since the initial upload).
