reprepro 0.8 backport uploaded

by Julien

I have uploaded reprepro 0.8 backport for Sarge a few minutes after Bernard R. Link uploaded the new source to the official archive. At the time writing this post, reprepro 0.8 is still in the incoming queue.
I was waiting this version which introduced native bzip2 compression, as well as a new function to remove empty and unused folders in pool.

As usual, you can find this package at http://packages.kirya.net.

Changes on packages.kirya.net

by Julien

I renewed the interface to apt-file-parser to include a list of packages contained in the stable branch: http://packages.kirya.net.

I took quite the same stylesheet for the mailing-list archives, which have been moved to http://lists.kirya.net/debian/.

DDNS

by Julien

I have been playing for a few days with Dynamic DNS. My aim was to run my own DDNS server on my VDS to update my dynamic IP entry for my domain name.
Using Bind9 and nsupdate, everything seems to work fine. A small script is launched through ppp ip-up.

hades: VDS rule!

by Julien

I have finally bought my first VDS. I gave this new host the name of “hades“. For the moment, I just make the place clean and moved my Debian packages to hades, which will make my life easier when it comes to updates (I will be able to use tools like rsync over ssh, and leave ftp alone).

The DNS changes for packages.kirya.net should already have been made thanks to the 4 minutes TTL from hn.org (well, I have to admit I don’t understand everything, as it seems that some DNS servers are not up-to-date, even if I made the change early this morning).

New mobile phone

by Julien

I bought a new mobile phone: a Siemens C72. It works great with GNU/Linux. So far, I have been able to:

  • use the irda port between my laptop and the phone (with irda-utils)
  • connect to the Internet from my laptop with GSM standard (9,600b/s!)
  • send and receive sms from my laptop (with gsm-utils)
  • transfer files from my laptop to the phone (with obexftp)

It is a cheap phone with standard features (including this irda port and the modem).
