First RFS

by Julien

I sent an Request For Sponsor to debian-mentors@l.d.o for freeloader, a Gnome download manager that supports torrents, written by Steven Grafton.

Clément Stenac already said he might be interested in uploading this package, after checking it of course.
This would be my first package in the officiel archive (except rkhunter that I co-maintain with Micah Anderson).

Edit 17/12/05:
freeloader was uploaded by Clément. Thanks to him for helping!

freeloader_0.3-3_i386.changes uploaded successfully to localhost along with the files:
freeloader_0.3-3.dsc
freeloader_0.3.orig.tar.gz
freeloader_0.3-3.diff.gz
freeloader_0.3-3_i386.deb

Virtual dedicated server?

by Julien

I am thinking of buying a small VDS to benefit from a broadband Internet connection for my websites. This would also allow me to remove services from my home server, not that it suffers from overload, but would allow me to easily run tests on it without breaking anything used by others.

I am quite interested by Web1.fr’s Giga-web1 offer. On their site, it seems to be an ideal deal for me, especially for its price. I looked at the forum, and the technical guys seem to be very flexible and generous. Last but not least, their VDS run Debian and can be delivered without any administrative panel!

Giving up YADRMT development

by Julien

I decided to give up YADRMT (Yet Another Debian Repository Management Tool) development. YADRMT was supposed to be a simple tool – written in Python – to create and maintain a Debian repository with pool structure. I am lacking of free time, and more powerful tools already exist, like Bernard R. Link’s reprepro.

As YADRMT was never released, I am sure nobody will care about this. If you want me to provide the code that was already written, just leave a comment.

By the way, note that you can find reprepro Debian packages backported for Sarge in my repository (which is of course updated through reprepro).

First backports for Sarge

by Julien

I have built some backports for Sarge of “my” Debian packages. Here is the short list: ftpsync, rdiff-backup, reprepro, and, last but not least rkhunter.
See http://packages.kirya.net for more information on how to use my repository.

I plan to build some more backports for tovid and tovid-gui packages.

First blog, first entry

by Julien

I finally decided to open my own weblog. Not that I have much to say, but I discovered this *can* be a good means to talk about my personal projects, explain my ideas, and maybe learn from others’ comments. This blog will complete the already existing kirya.net website, but I will also certainly be pushed to broach more general topics. However, do not expect me to speak about the music I listen to, or things like that. Who would be interested anyway?

I chose to install WordPress, as it seems to be the more flexible engine for the future needs, and allows quick posting through the Gnome Blog applet.

Please, do not hesitate to leave your comments and suggestions.
